### Investigation of the Piece Population in BitTorrent

This project will consist of investigating the piece population in BitTorrent swarms. An [initial theory][1] has been created to describe the population. To test this
theory, a modified version of BitTornado will be run on multiple nodes in the PlanetLab system. 
This modified version will output details of the pieces downloaded by the BitTorrent client, as 
well as all the piece information it receives from other (real) peers. The program can then be
run in two different ways: as a simulation involving only modified torrents on a fake torrent,
or on a real torrent with a real swarm. In this way, the piece population of all clients can be 
studied in detail.

The [preliminary results][2] from this measurement have been submitted to the [Globecom 2007][3] conference.
